ThoughtForm at Rivertech Office Works
South Side, Pittsburgh
A free exchange of ideas, frequent brainstorm and working sessions, and peer critiques flow in ThoughtForm’s space in the newly developed Rivertech Office Works in the South Side.
As a reflection of ThoughtForm’s hospitality and client focus, a welcoming “Main Street” flows throughout the numerous workspaces, or “neighborhoods” that are organized by discipline teams. These flexible spaces feature moveable seating and a refreshment table, a true commons area that encourages staff and visitors to interact.
ThoughtForm depends on how well its knowledgeable workers create, collaborate and communicate. Anything can happen beyond these “neighborhoods” – from deep solo concentration to boisterous group collaboration.

Schell Games
South Side, Pittsburgh
Who would have thought that by widening doorways, removing unnecessary partitions and painting walls with bright yellow and orange colors – appropriately named optical caffeine – would promote creativity? Schell Games did!
Schell Games develops interactive internet computer games and creates interactive designs, including websites, multimedia, and concept artwork. By removing the elements of a traditional workspace, Schell Games integrated creativity in this space in hopes that it would translate into the technical and artistic elements of the work.
Everyone at Schell Games has an opportunity to personalize their space. Inspiration comes from the studio’s main wall, made up of large glass windows that look down on Carson Street, bringing in natural light and lots of interesting people and situations to watch. Other features include a flexible conference room that can divide in half, an arcade gaming area, and, as principal Jesse Schell describes, "A secret laboratory which can only be accessed via a fingerprint lock."
